Moving Into the Design Phase

Once you have arrived at a reasonable definition of the building project you can afford, you can start engaging an architect to do actual drawings, design schematics and floor plans. It is at this point that you should also be in contact with the Archdiocese Worship Center for consultation on the design requirements if they specifically involve your worship space.

The drawings for your project, especially the drawing of the outer building, will come to symbolically represent your vision. As exciting as this work is, we offer one strong word of caution. If you have not already done so, have your architect (and perhaps their staff engineer or a consulting engineering firm) complete a facility needs assessment.

During this phase of work, CFC can provide you with lists of architects and facility needs assessment firms (see CFC's Guide to Selecting Consultants). If you decide to select professionals through a formalized process, we can help you develop Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs) so that you can seek and evaluate prospective architects. We can discuss sample interview questions with you, tips on how to conduct the interviews, suggestions as to who should be involved, ideas for the selection process, critiquing and ranking of firms, and final selection.
