Obtaining Archdiocesan Project and Proxy Approval
The Archdiocese has published a new ten-page booklet titled "The Building Process for Parishes and Schools" to assist parishes and schools who are undertaking construction programs. This publication details the steps that will need to be taken by parishes and schools to initiate and implement a building plan and receive the necessary project approvals from the Archdiocese. Archdiocese Building Process
This Archdiocese publication outlines 11 steps in the building process, including four contact points to be made with the Archdiocese, through the Director of Administration and Finance. Meeting with the Archdiocesan Building Commission (ABC), an event which historically tended to be the only contact point, now comes after the parish has already had at least two contacts with Archdiocesan staff.
Catholic Finance Corporation can help you through the process of obtaining project and proxy approval. We are familiar with the new process guidelines and can meet with your organization to help you get up to speed on the steps you will need to take. We have also been present at many ABC presentations and are familiar with what the ABC is used to seeing and the kinds of questions they typically ask. We can help you prepare for your presentation and can even "critique" a dry-run presentation prior to your formal presentation.
To get project approval, parishes must present materials to the ABC that adequately define the need, scope and means of funding for the project. In more specific terms, the ABC will be looking for you to:
- Demonstrate your need
- Explain how you are responding to that need
- Show your project plans
- Indicate to the ABC how you plan to finance the project (financial feasibility)
